How has God preserved His word? How has the enemy tried to pervert the word of God?

King James I

Post by jimbaum »

This topic is to discuss the person, King James I.

David posted in another topic the following:
Proverbs 21:1

The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

1 Samuel 2:30

Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

Romans 13:1-3

1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

I believe a love for the things of God had much to do with King James I decision to command a English language bible be translated. I believe the translators loved the Lord, their king and country, I also believe the God of Israel is in control of all things including the placement of these people in our history. The King is a power ordained of God and his heart is in the hand of the Lord.

Psalm 2 & 1 John 5:19

Post by jimbaum »

David, consider how Psalm 2 and 1 John 5:19 applied to King James I:

Psalm 2:
Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
1 John 5:19:
And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

I really don't know much about King James other than he was a King he commanded a Holy Bible be translated from the available manuscripts for the english speaking peoples of his kingdom. I believe that honors God, I believe it was God who put in the Kings heart to command it and made available the manuscripts to be used.

Psalms 2 I believe speaks of leaders who do not have the Lord in their hearts but rather reject and oppose Him and a warning for leaders to serve Him. I don't mean to sound evasive I just don't know enough about King James to comment how the first part may or may not apply to him but I would think he heeded the warning to serve the Lord, at least in commanding the Holy Bible to be translated for his subjects.
